(Topeka) -- The Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) is pleased to announce the opening of the first IRP Regional Office on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Haskell County Treasurers office, 300 South Inman, Sublette, Kansas.

Office hours for the motor carrier services are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. KDOR and Haskell County believe this is a winning combination for motor carriers.

Currently motor carriers register their vehicles that travel in more than one jurisdiction with the KDOR’s Motor Carrier Services Bureau in Topeka. By adding this regional office, motor carriers will not have to travel to Topeka to make changes to their current International Registration Plan (IRP) account.

IRP is an agreement providing registration reciprocity among 48 states and Canada.

The unique feature of the plan is that, even though apportion fees are paid to various jurisdictions in which vehicles of a fleet are operated, the only plate and cab card issued for each fleet vehicle are the plate and cab card issued by the base jurisdiction.

The plan provides for payment of apportion fees on the basis of the proportion of total distance operated in all jurisdictions by the fleet of which a vehicle is part.

A fleet vehicle is called an apportion vehicle in the plan, and such a vehicle, when registered under the plan and so far as registration is concerned, may be operated both in 48 states, District of Columbia and Canada.

The plan was initially developed by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and is recommended for adoption by all jurisdictions.

Kansas became a member of the IRP July, 1980.
